Parquet floor sanding in West Ealing
West Ealing has a strong concentration of original herringbone parquet in its Edwardian and interwar properties — the streets between Manor Road, Culmington Road and Uxbridge Road frequently contain parquet in hallways and front rooms that has been in place for eighty or ninety years. These floors typically respond very well to restoration: the blocks are solid, the pattern is sound, and with proper preparation — block repairs, full gap filling, diagonal sanding, and the right finish — the results are consistently impressive. Our parquet floor sanding service covers every stage, and we have multiple completed W13 parquet projects in the gallery.
Floorboards and hardwood in West Ealing
The solid pine floorboards and hardwood floors throughout West Ealing's Victorian and Edwardian terraces are among the most consistently good-quality original floors we work with in West London. Whether your boards need repairs, gap filling, staining or simply a fresh finish to replace one that has worn out, we assess the floor thoroughly at the survey before any work begins and carry out all necessary preparation before the sanding starts. We source reclaimed pine for any replacement boards and match them as closely as possible to the existing floor. Our staining service is available if you want to update the colour.
Engineered wood floor sanding in West Ealing
West Ealing's newer builds and recently refurbished properties increasingly have engineered wood floors that benefit from professional sanding and refinishing. We confirm wear layer depth at the survey before committing to any sanding work and only proceed when the floor is genuinely suitable. We refinish with Bona, Loba or Osmo — lacquer and hardwax oil both available.

Parquet Floor Sanding and Staircase Restoration in West Ealing, W13
This W13 project covered two connected surfaces in one job — the herringbone parquet floor in the hallway and front room, and the staircase leading from the hallway to the first floor. The client wanted both finished consistently so the restoration read as a single cohesive result rather than two separate jobs done at different times.
The parquet was in good condition structurally — solid oak blocks, almost all well-bonded, with only a small number of loose blocks near the doorway that needed regluing before sanding. Gap filling throughout was carried out using the floor's own sanding dust mixed with resin, producing a colour match that blended naturally into the surrounding blocks. The sanding itself ran diagonally across the herringbone pattern through four grit stages, with hand-scraper work along the skirting boards and in the corners where the machine couldn't reach cleanly.
The staircase was sanded separately using a combination of orbital and detail sanders appropriate for the tread profiles, stripped back to bare wood and worked through the same grit progression as the floor. Matching both surfaces to the same finish required care — the staircase wood and the parquet oak were slightly different in tone, so test panels were applied and reviewed with the client before the final finish was agreed.
Both were sealed with a lacquer finish, applied in three coats with a light buff between each. The completed hallway — parquet floor and staircase in matching finish — looked exactly as the client had hoped: unified, well-restored, and suited to the character of the Edwardian property.

Frequently asked questions
How long does floor sanding take in West Ealing? Most residential jobs in West Ealing take one to two days for a standard room. Parquet with repairs typically takes two days. Projects combining floors and staircases are usually completed within two to three days.
Do you offer free site visits in West Ealing? Yes — free, no-obligation surveys throughout West Ealing, Northfields and Hanwell. Your surveyor comes out in person, assesses the floor properly, and explains the options before providing a written quote within 24 hours.
Can you sand and restore the staircase at the same time as the floor in West Ealing? Yes, and we regularly do so in W13. Matching the staircase finish to the floor requires a test panel stage where we apply finish samples to both surfaces and confirm the colour match with you before proceeding. We quote the staircase separately from the floor area.
What finish works best for parquet in a West Ealing Edwardian terrace? For Edwardian oak parquet in W13 properties, a water-based lacquer in a satin or matt sheen — such as Bona Mega or Bona Traffic — gives a clean, contemporary result that suits the proportions of these interiors without over-finishing the floor. For a softer, more natural appearance, Osmo Polyx hardwax oil is an excellent alternative. Our surveyor will apply test samples on your sanded floor so you can see the result before committing.
Who carries out the floor sanding work in West Ealing? Our experienced flooring technicians, some of whom — like Sergei and Eric, mentioned by clients in W13 — have been with FlooringFirst for many years. You'll know who's coming before the job starts, and they'll talk you through what they're doing throughout.

Local Project: Parquet Floor Sanding & Refinishing in West Ealing in West Ealing — 1 August 2020
Parquet flooring is a timeless epitome of beauty, unbeatable style, and often associated with luxury. Therefore, if you are a lucky owner of a classic parquet floor, you would like to take proper care of it and ensure it will last for as long as possible and still look and feel flawless even after decades of use and high traffic. This is what this parquet floor sanding and refinishing project we have recently finished is all about. Wood floor sanding and refinishing are both very beneficial professional services because they improve the condition of every hardwood floor, make it look like brand-new, and significantly decrease the risk of major issues and problems with the floor.
The biggest challenge when it comes to parquet floor sanding is sanding against the grain of the wooden floorboards. Due to the specifics of the parquet floor pattern, you cannot sand the floor straightforward like a classic timber floor, for example. Therefore, a parquet floor sanding project should involve professional help and a wide variety of professional floor sanding equipment, each tool dedicated to achieving flawless results and a smooth surface just like we did for this parquet floor project. Once the surface is smoothly and evenly sanded, we can continue with refinishing the floor. A wood floor lacquer finish is a perfect choice for a parquet floor because it enhances the elegance of the pattern. To ensure a more put-together and sleek look for the entire home, we also have sanded and sealed the wooden stairs in the house. The final result is truly breath-taking.
