I am looking for a floor fitter to fit our reclaimed (already purchased) oak parquet into our extension due for completion in 3 weeks.  The floor would need sanding and finishing and does have bitumen on the back of it.  I'm ideally looking for a herringbone pattern and currently have no preference as to whether it is a 1 or 2 block border.

The floor is a suspended wood flooring and the total area is 44.25m2 indicated in yellow on the attached plan.

We would be looking for work to commence in a few weeks.

At this stage, I would be ideally looking to get a rough estimate of cost before then organising a visit to the site if required.

Can you put underfloor heating down with reclaimed parquet? Approx what is the cost of laying parquet blocks per sq metre?

Hi. We have a 3-strip oak engineered floor (15 mm with 4 mm top layer).  We chose a lacquered finish, but now we have kids, want to get a dog and I believe oil might be a better finish. Is it possible to sand it down and change it to oil? Thanks.

I would like to have my stairs refinished and as the builders are keeping the white colour throughout all skirting boards and architraves, I would like to have the choice of having our steps in natural wood but stained in dark colour. Is that something possible to consider?

Is it a good idea you think when restoring our white painted staircase to also strip the paint of banisters and sides as well?

I have an 1868 lodge house with original oak flooring, it's about 2.5" wide each strip, we were flooded in the storm last week and the floor had water/mud all over it, some of it has remained wet now for a week. The insurance put in big de-humidifiers 3 days after the flood then 18 hours later phoned and told me to turn them off, but they had already started to lift the oak, causing what I am told by a friend is cupping?

Can you offer me any advice/opinion without prejudice if this method of drying would be right for what I guess is an antique floor?

Thanks very much for your time / any help you can offer.

Hi,

Recently come across parquet flooring in our hallway.
Have already sanded the floor and it's ready for sealing and/or varnishing.
I would like to get advice on how best to proceed.
The hallway is subject to heavy use, dogs and kids, so I want to make it as hardwearing as possible.
I'm not sure what is best/next step having just finished sanding the floor.
I don't want to darken the colour of the floor at all so a clear sealant/varnish is essential.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Recently installed engineered wood flooring - within a few days we noticed hairline cracked in the middle of the plank. We sent a photograph to the installer, but no luck yet. What could be the reason? How would I repair it?

I have been offered a reclaimed parquet floor. The blocks are tongue a groove, but these blocks have a flat side where the tongue should be. Can these still be laid? or would you not advise me to buy these blocks. If they can be laid, what steps would you need to take to compensate for not having a tongue.

Can you sand bamboo flooring and will the floor absorb the stain after sanding?
