Floor Care Tips and Advice
Find Our More on Fitting Floors in East London
QuickStep Laminate Flooring Installation in East London
This project took us to a large office, where our team of fitters was supposed to lay approx. 82 sqm of Quick-Step laminate flooring. When they arrived the area was clean of any furniture so they could start with removing the old carpet. Once the carpet was lifted, there were old and damaged chipboards, which were used as a subfloor but they were no longer suitable for this purpose. Instead, our clients preferred the laminate to be installed over the concrete subfloor onto 3 mm foam underlay.
When the subfloor was ready, our team could proceed with the fitting process. As you probably already know the installation of laminate, is not so complicated but for smooth and stable construction are required experience and skills. An interesting fact about the laminates is that exactly Quick-Step is the company that changed the industry by inventing the Uniclic system in 1997, which guarantee swift and easier glueless installation. As you will be able to notice from the photos another advantage of their products is that their surface structure mimics perfectly the natural depth of the wood texture. The surface of this floor matches with oak flooring, which is one of the most preferred wooden species according to our practice.
The area was large, which is why the whole process was more time consuming for our hardworking team and it took them 4 days to complete it.
Oak Parquet Blocks Installation in East London
Probably the most important part of every wood floor installation project is the subfloor preparation. In the current case, we were about to install the parquet blocks over concrete, that was uneven. The best and fastest way to deal with such a problem is by using a self-levelling compound, as you can see in the first image. Once the concrete surface was smooth and flat, we could continue with the application of a DPM primer, which is creating better insulation against moisture.
The parquet blocks might be fit in various patterns, depending on the aesthetical preferences of the client. In this project, our clients decided to stick with the traditional choice of the herringbone pattern, which is something our fitters are very familiar with. The oak parquet flooring supplied by our company is unfinished, which is why this must be done on-site. The refinishing process requires sanding because it will smooth and level the surface. After the timber is sanded, the wood pores are open so they can soak better the finish. This process also included filling the gaps with a mixture from sawdust remains and resin filler. Then the floor is polished again with finer sandpaper grit, to prepare it for the final two stages of the process – the staining and sealing.
Our clients wanted their parquet flooring to be in some warmer tones, which is why we recommended them a stain in medium oak. For the last step, the owners left the choice in our hands, in a result, they ended up with the durable and hard-wearing lacquer - ‘Junckers HP Commercial’. We applied 3 coats, which should be enough to keep the floor vibrant with minimal wear for the years to come. It took 6 days for our team to finish this job.
