When we started working on this project, our clients thought that their floor is in such a bad condition that it is beyond repair. So they’ve decided to give a wood floor repair and sanding project a go and try to save money through a full renovation instead of a full replacement of the floorboards. Thankfully, we’ve managed to meet all their expectations and even exceed them. Furthermore, we successfully fitted into our clients’ busy schedules and limited budget and you can assume we’ve done some wonders here in order to be able to deliver the highest quality of advanced wood floor repair and renovation services on a pretty affordable price without making any compromises with what is really required to be done. Once our clients were informed about the price of the project, they’ve decided to use the rest of their budget for a renovation of the wooden stairs too, so they can completely complement the new-found beauty and elegance of their rather distressed and worn and torn floor.
The first step of the project required us to remove the fireplace hearth. What should be the focal point and the heart of the room – the fireplace – now looked tired and old due to the wear and tear on the hearth. So a replacement was definitely required and our main mission was finding the right fit that is still hard-wearing and ensures comfort but also transitions beautifully and uniformly into an elegant wooden floor.
The task with finding a suitable fit remained topical with the rest of the floor too. Some boards were in such bad condition and a replacement was necessary. We’ve managed to find the exact match to the existing floor and replace the extra damaged floorboards. The rest of the floorboards that were not secured to be fully safe to use were refitted and nailed down. Once the floor structure became super sturdy and stable we continued with filling in the major gaps in between the boards that usually appear with time and due to the age of the floor. Some finer gaps were filled with a mixture of natural resin and sawdust that is collected after the first round of sanding. Since the sawdust comes from the floor, the gaps are filled in with a mixture of the exact colour and texture as the rest of the floorboards. However, some gaps are too wide and an additional gap filling with pine slivers is required.
Once this is done, the floor becomes even sturdier and more durable and it ensures great insulation. Next, we can carry on with sanding the surface until it becomes extra smooth and uniform and all of the scratches, dents, marks, stains, the old and worn finish, and the rest of the imperfections are stripped down. The following buffing treatment makes the surface even smoother and opens the porous structure of wood so it can absorb the lacquer to finish more effectively. The finish of choice is a glossy lacquer that ensures great protection of the bare wood and contributes to an elegant and sophisticated interior. To finish up the whole project and achieve outstanding results, we’ve sanded and sealed the wooden stairs too. This last finishing touch created a great and smooth transition between the different areas of the house.
Removing the old carpet in your home and discovering a beautiful parquet floor underneath is as close to winning the lottery as it goes in our industry. Our clients were lucky enough to make that discovery in the new home they purchased recently and they immediately contacted us to book a free professional consultation. After we inspected the floor on site and evaluated its condition, we considered that parquetry is preserved in a pretty good condition despite the years and after a professional parquet floor repair treatment it can look like brand new again. The results are impressive and we are proud and glad to be the experienced and skilful specialists who achieved them in such a short period of time.
Considering the current condition of the parquet floor by the time of inspection, we recommended a thorough repair of the floorboards. Some of the damaged floorboards beyond repair were replaced with new ones. We managed to supply the closest match in terms of materials and reclaimed wood was the final choice for this project as our clients wanted a more budget-friendly option that will somehow blend with the character and classic beauty of the existing floor.
After replacing all the damaged boards and fixing the loose ones in good condition down we proceeded to fill in all the existing gaps. Gap filling is a great method for amplifying the durability, stability, and solidness of aged parquet floors. By filling the gaps we also can achieve significantly better insulation, which is a great bonus, especially in the winter months. Once all the major repairs were finished, it was about time to start with sanding the surface. In a nutshell, parquet floor sanding is a pretty challenging service. It involves a lot of patience and dedication, especially for a reliable and experienced company like us – we never cut corners and we strive to achieve best results and high standards. Sanding against the grain is a very high risk with parquet patterns, which will lead to damages of the floorboards and quicker wear and tear. This is why we always recommend you leaving parquet floor sanding to the knowledgeable professionals.
We’ve used our advanced sanding equipment and machinery and after a few rounds with the sanding machines, we were able to achieve a very smooth and uniform surface of the floor. All the scratches, dents, stains were finally gone and wood was ready for the application of the finishing products. The choice of finish of our clients is lacquer. The lacquer finish is really a very good choice for parquet wood floors as it boosts the beauty of the pattern and adds up to the classic and elegant style of such flooring. As you can tell by the pictures, we were able to transform this aged and worn floor completely. Once we were done with the parquet floor repair and renovation service, this beautiful classic floor now is the statement piece of this home.
