FlooringFirst is a flooring company providing professional floor sanding and restoration services in Fulham, SW6 and the surrounding areas.
Our floor sanding service in Fulham is delivered by fully insured, experienced flooring technicians using dustless sanding equipment throughout — keeping your home clean and protected from start to finish. Whether your floors are solid hardwood, original pine floorboards, parquet blocks, or engineered timber, we restore them using premium sealants from Bona, Loba, Junckers and Osmo.
Fulham's Victorian terraces and Edwardian conversions along streets like Munster Road, Dawes Road and the roads around Parsons Green contain some of the most well-preserved original timber floors in South West London. The area also has a high concentration of engineered floors in newer flats and riverside developments — floor types that require a more considered approach to sanding and refinishing. We work across all of them, and we've been doing so in SW6 since 2004. Get in touch with FlooringFirst in Fulham and we'll give you an honest assessment of what your floor needs and what it will cost.
What services we offer in Fulham, SW6
Parquet floor restoration in Fulham
Fulham's Victorian and Edwardian terraces — particularly those around Burlington Road and the streets running off New Kings Road — frequently have original herringbone parquet in hallways and front reception rooms, often in better condition than expected once carpet is lifted. Our parquet restoration service covers the complete process: refitting any loose or lifted blocks, sourcing reclaimed matching blocks where needed, gap filling throughout using the floor's own sanding dust mixed with resin, and finishing with your choice of lacquer or hardwax oil. Gap filling is strongly recommended for all parquet work — it stabilises the floor, improves insulation, and gives a considerably cleaner finish after sanding.
Floorboards sanding and repairs in Fulham
The solid pine floorboards running through Fulham's period properties are typically well-built and of good remaining thickness, even in heavily trafficked homes. Our approach always begins with a thorough inspection and any necessary repairs before sanding starts — refitting loose boards, replacing damaged sections with reclaimed seasoned pine matched to the existing floor, and filling gaps with resin and dust for a clean, consistent surface. The sanding itself runs through progressively finer grits before a durable lacquer or hardwax oil finish is applied. Our gap filling and staining services are available to complete the result.

Engineered floor renovation in Fulham
Fulham has a high proportion of engineered wood floors — particularly in the apartments along Fulham Reach and the developments around Imperial Wharf — and refinishing these correctly requires a precise approach. Engineered floors have a limited sandable wear layer, typically 3–4mm, which means there is little margin for error. Our technicians always assess wear layer depth and previous sanding history before any work begins and only proceed when there is sufficient material to work with safely. We refinish using Bona, Loba or Osmo products, with lacquer and hardwax oil both available depending on your floor and usage.

Featured project — Severely scratched engineered floor restoration in Fulham, SW6
This Fulham job is a good example of damage that looks worse than it is — and of why a specialist engineered floor assessment before any work begins is so important.
The floor had a combination of surface scuffs throughout and, in one specific area of the living room, deep concentrated gouges where a grand piano had stood for several years. The weight and the movement of the piano legs over time had worked through the finish and into the wood itself, creating visible indentations that the client assumed would require full board replacement.
On inspection, the wear layer was measured and confirmed to have sufficient depth remaining for a careful sand — the damage, while visually severe, hadn't penetrated through the engineered core. Our team sanded the floor through controlled, progressive grits, taking particular care in the piano area to level the surface gradually without cutting below the wear layer in the surrounding undamaged sections.
The deeper indentations left by the piano legs were filled with a resin and sanding dust compound mixed to match the floor's own colour — the same technique used on parquet gap filling, but applied precisely to the affected areas and feathered into the surrounding surface before the final sanding pass. The entire floor was then refinished with a satin lacquer applied in three coats, producing a consistent sheen and a result the client described as indistinguishable from new.

Local Project: Hardwood Floor and Stairs Repair, Sanding and Gap Filling in Fulham in Fulham — 1 September 2021
The job
We have started this project by assessing the condition of a hardwood floor and a wooden staircase. After a thorough inspection, it was concluded that the floor was in need of gap filling, some spot repair, sanding and refinishing with a lacquer finish. The wooden staircase was about to be refreshed and improved visually by re-sanding and sealing.
Challenges
Real wood floors are designed to last up to a whole century. The key to unlocking their full potential is regular and proper maintenance. Over time hardwood floors and staircases will start showing signs of wear and tear and probably start experiencing a number of minor issues. The goal of regular upkeep is to prevent the risk of these minor issues growing into major ones while improving the condition of the wooden floorboards.
There are many reasons while wooden floors and stairs will start feeling worn and tired – high traffic, temperature fluctuations, humidity and moisture being the top ones. As a result, wood can experience a number of issues with its stability and overall condition. The appearance of gaps, loss and damaged floorboards that require replacement, warping of the edges and what not are just a few of the wood flooring issues professionals will deal with and take care of. For this exact project, our main mission was to take care of the damaged floorboards and replace them with new ones where damage is beyond repair, fill in the gaps between the floorboards.
What we did?
Once our professional team took care of all issues and filled in all the gaps between the floorboards for improving the stability and the insulation of the floor, they continued with the sanding treatment. Sanding is suitable for wooden surfaces, flooring and staircase included. It consists of stripping off the layer of old finish from the surface of the floor along with all dirt build-up and surface imperfections. Once sanding is finished, the wooden surface is very smooth, even and uniform. It is ready for the application of a finishing product.
For this project, we have chosen hard-wearing and long-lasting finishes for both the floor and the stairs. Staircases are classic areas of high traffic, therefore hard-wearing protection with the help of a high-quality and strong sealant is required. Lacquer finishes are known not only for their durability but also for a touch of elegance and timeless beauty they add to every wooden floor and a high-quality lacquer finish was the choice for this hardwood floor.
The bottom line
The results of this project we have worked on are clear evidence of how much of a difference a professional service can make. Surely, there are online guides teaching you how to sand your own wooden floor and you are rent sanding equipment from your local retailer. However, only experienced and knowledgeable professionals can achieve flawless results and help you enjoy your wooden floor for many more decades.

Local Project: Solid Wood Flooring Restoration in Fulham in Fulham — 1 June 2017
The hardwood flooring is a beloved choice in many UK households, and we are about to prove there is a reason behind this. Our job this time was to restore the initial beauty of this real wood flooring. Its appearance was no longer compatible with the interior design concept of our clients. The restoration project included a hallway and a reception room. The overall condition of the solid wood floor was good, but it had some minor surface imperfections. As you can see from the images, the top layer of the finish was worn and dull, which is why it had to be stripped off.
The floor sanding service was completed with belt sander from Bona, which is literally dust-free. After the rough job was completed, and the floor was levelled, the surface was smoothened up with a buffing machine, which prepared it for the sealant. Our clients wanted to keep the remarkable natural look of the real wood, but at the same time to enhance it with a satin sheen. The product we advised them was ‘Junckers HP Commercial’ satin, which means less glossy. This is a water-based lacquer, which is extremely durable and the 4 coats we apply will last for years.
