Smoked & White-oiled Oak Xylo Engineered Flooring in Islington
Engineered wood flooring is not hard to install. In fact, it’s click system is relatively new and considered among the easiest to use. In addition, the majority of engineered floors come prefinished. This means that the surface is already protected by several coats of factory finish so floor sanding and staining are not needed.
The job you see here was exactly as described on top. We had to fit prefinished engineered wood flooring. It was not a floating installation, though, and we had to glue the floor down.
However, this could not be done if the subfloor itself is not properly levelled. Problem is that it wasn’t. We had to use an acrylic levelling compound to prepare the subfloor for what was to come. We managed to secure the engineered wood in place without any trouble. We left a small expansion gap to give the floor some space to move if needed and left the customer free to enjoy his fine new purchase.
Engineered Wood Floor Installation in Islington
Engineered wood is a beautiful, durable, and highly stable option for many households and commercial environments. Thanks to its specific and advanced structure, it is less prone to issues that often make the classic hardwood flooring experience wear and tear and moisture damages. In contrast, engineered wood floors can last for a long time without engaging you to deal with issues and stress about problems.
This, along with the fact that engineered wood floors can be installed in a few different ways and even in situations when solid wood floor fitting is not recommended, are the reasons why engineered wood is a common choice these days. And this project we have recently undertook, is yet another example to support this statement and add to the portfolio. A pretty straightforward and self-explanatory project, our customers wanted us to lift and dispose of the old hardwood flooring they have installed at their place years ago. In some similar cases, floor professionals opt for glueing or nailing down the new engineered wood floor directly onto the old wooden surface. In this case, we’ve decided this is not the best option as the hardwood floor was very aged, unstable, and particularly damaged by moisture and temperature fluctuations, which means it is not a lasting and solid base for the new floor.
After we finished with lifting the old hardwood floor, we continued with preparing the subfloor that includes cleaning, levelling, and checking the moisture levels, then drying it if required. Once the subfloor is ready, we can continue with the installation of the engineered wood floor. One of the great benefits of this type of real wood flooring is the fact it can be installed in a few different ways, each of them being a great solution in different situations. In this case, our professionals have chosen the floating installation method that does not include glueing or nailing down and is pretty easy and effortless to follow, while creating stable, lasting, and hard-wearing floors. Once a few finishing touches were added such as trimming the doors and the door frames for a complete and flawless look and functionality, we were ready to welcome the homeowners to inspect and enjoy their new engineered wood floor.
