Project Overview
This project involved the professional installation of laminate flooring at a property in Islington, N1. The client required a quality floor that would stand up to daily use and complement their interior. Our fitting team assessed the subfloor condition, carried out any necessary preparation work, and fitted the new floor to a high standard.
Before the Work
Before installation, the existing floor covering was inspected, and the subfloor was prepared to ensure it was flat, dry, and suitable for the new laminate. Any existing floor covering was lifted and disposed of cleanly before the fitting work began.
Our Approach
The following services were carried out as part of this project:
- Beading Installation (incl. materials)
- Door Frame Trimming
- Furniture Moving
- Laminate Floor Installation
- Lift & Dispose Carpets or Laminates
- Thresholds & Fitting (inc. materials)
- Duralay Timbermate Excel Silver Wood Floor & Laminate Underlay
The Result
The completed laminate installation looked clean and finished throughout. Joins are tight, edges are neat, and the floor sits flat and stable. Beading and threshold strips were fitted where required to complete the job properly. The client was pleased with both the quality of the work and the appearance of the new floor.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the subfloor conditions like in Islington properties? Islington has a high concentration of Georgian and Victorian terraces, particularly across Canonbury, Barnsbury and Highbury, and subfloor conditions in these properties vary considerably. Original floorboards laid directly onto joists are common, and many have moved, shrunk or been partially replaced over the years. Purpose-built flats from the postwar period tend to have concrete subfloors. Both require different preparation approaches before laminate can go down, and we assess each one individually during the initial site visit.
Is underlay particularly important in Islington flats and conversions? Yes, especially in converted Victorian terraces where sound transmission between floors is a frequent concern for both residents and their neighbours. A quality underlay provides meaningful acoustic insulation alongside its levelling and thermal properties — something that matters considerably more in a converted flat in N1 than in a detached house. We specify underlay based on the property type and subfloor condition rather than using a one-size-fits-all product.
Do you cover Islington and the surrounding N1 area? Yes. We work regularly across N1 and the nearby postcodes, including Angel, Highbury, Canonbury, Barnsbury and Clerkenwell. Call us on 020 88309782 or book a free site visit to discuss your project.
