Does Engineered Wood Flooring Need to Be Glued?

Is it necessary to glue engineered wood flooring during installation?

Not always—gluing engineered wood flooring depends on the type of system and installation method.

  • Click-lock systems are designed to be floated over underlayment without any glue, making them ideal for quick, mess-free installations.

  • Tongue-and-groove boards, on the other hand, often require glue in the joints to ensure a stable, secure fit.
Alternatively, engineered wood can be fully glued to the subfloor using permanently elastic adhesive, which provides enhanced stability and sound insulation, especially in high-traffic or moisture-prone areas.
