Is It Better to Paint or Stain Wood Floors?

Which is better for wood floors—painting or staining?

In most cases, staining is the better option for wood floors. While paint completely covers the surface, stain enhances the natural character of the wood, allowing the grain, knots, and texture to show through. Stained floors also tend to be more durable, resist wear better, and retain their colour longer than painted floors. Paint may offer a bold aesthetic, but it’s more prone to chipping and often requires more frequent touch-ups or refinishing.
