Oak Parquet Floor Fitting In Rustic Grade

Like every other fitting job, this one started with a thorough inspection of the subfloor. This is really important for the successful outcome of the project because it will guarantee the stability and longevity of the whole construction. The subfloor at this Hackney house was from old floorboards, that was not on the same level, so we had to install 12mm plywood over the boards. Few weeks before the starting date for the job, the timber material was left to acclimatise in the property. This is important because the wood is a natural product and it expands and shrinks due to the air humidity and other factors like moisture. We always make sure that the place is suitable for wooden flooring, on our first meeting with the clients, when our surveyor is inspecting the whole are and the subfloor condition.

Once the subfloor was ready, our fitters started to lay the blocks in a herringbone pattern, which is one of the most recognisable and stylish patterns when we talk about parquet flooring.

The parquet blocks were in rustic grade and unfinished, so our team had to seal them on site. Before the finish, the surface of the flooring needed to be smooth and levelled, which is why the floor sanding service was necessary. After the top layer of the blocks was stripped off their pores are opened and they will soak the finish better and more equally. The sawdust remains from the sanding our team used to mix with resin filler and the final product is used to fill the gaps between the blocks, which makes the whole construction solid and insulated. After the gaps were filled, we had to polish the floor one more time with a buffing machine which removed even the small imperfections and created a surface perfect for finishing.

In this case, the product used was ‘Junckers HP Commercial’ in satin sheen – this product is water-based which makes it fast drying and with low content of volatile organic compounds and non-yellowing.
