Project Details
The installation of real wood flooring requires skills and expertise. When the project is for parquet flooring, the experience of the fitter is even more important. The solid wood cut into small blocks allows being fit in various unique patterns. In this case, our clients decided to stick with the traditional choice of a herringbone pattern. But there were many things to be done from our team before the actual fitting process. One of the most crucial factors when laying down real wood flooring is good preparation. First, our team had to make sure that the moisture levels are low, so they won’t affect the new flooring. It’s recommendable to leave the timber material for a few days at the property prior installation. This amount of time allows the wood to acclimatise to the new environment, which will reduce the expanding or shrinking of the timber.
Another task prior to the installation of the blocks was to lift and dispose of approx. 40 sqm of carpets. The parquet blocks require a stable and levelled subfloor, which is why we installed 40 sqm of 9mm thick plywood.
After all the preparation job was done, our team started with the arrangement of the prime parquet blocks. The interesting detail you can notice from the images is that our clients wanted a double decoration border, which is matching the design of the existing parquet flooring in another room of their property. The parquet blocks we supply are unfinished, so this must be done on-site. Prior to applying the finish, the surface of the floor has to be levelled and smooth. This result is achieved after floor sanding and buffing procedure. The small gaps between the blocks are filled with a mixture of sawdust remains from the sanding and resin filler. The last step was applying the finish, the product used for this area was ‘Junckers HP Commercial’ – a water-based and hardwearing lacquer. After 4 coats of it, this parquet flooring will be shiny and vibrant for the many years to come.
