Kahrs Flooring London: What FlooringFirst Stocks and Fits

Kahrs is a Swedish manufacturer with one of the longest track records in engineered wood flooring. Founded in 1857, the company has built a reputation for consistent quality, wide colour ranges and flooring that performs well in the British climate. FlooringFirst has stocked and fitted Kahrs floors across London for many years.

This guide covers the main Kahrs collections available in the UK, what distinguishes them from one another, and what you should expect to pay for supply and fitting in London.

Why Kahrs holds up over time

Kahrs uses a seven-layer construction with a cross-ply birch core that keeps boards stable through the seasonal humidity changes you get in a typical London home. Their wear layers start at 3.5mm, and many boards in the premium ranges carry a 6mm layer, which allows multiple sanding cycles over decades.

The factory finish quality is consistently high, and the range of colours runs from pale nordic whites through to deep smoked and stained tones. This breadth is useful when you're matching to an existing interior scheme rather than designing from scratch.

    The main Kahrs collections

Kahrs organises its range into several collections, each targeting different price points and aesthetics.

Original is the core Kahrs range. Oak is available in multiple grades and finishes, from clean white-oiled boards to heavily character-marked rustic grades. This is the most commonly specified range for London residential projects.

Nouveau focuses on wide-format boards with more pronounced colour treatments, including grey-toned, wire-brushed and smoked options that suit contemporary open-plan interiors well.

Scandinavian Naturals brings together lighter, matte-finished boards with a more restrained look. Popular for Scandi-influenced interiors and rooms where you want the floor to recede rather than dominate.

Lumen covers their high-gloss lacquered options, which remain in demand for certain London flat refurbishments, particularly in modern builds.

Spirit Classic is the entry-level range, still using quality construction but at a lower price point. Suitable where budget is a clear constraint and the client wants Kahrs quality without the premium finish options.

    Finishes available

    • Natural oil: penetrating finish, matte look, spot-repairable
    • White oil: lighter tone, Scandi aesthetic, same maintenance as natural oil
    • Lacquer (satin or matt): harder surface, lower maintenance, harder to locally repair
    • Hardwax oil: sits between oil and lacquer in durability and maintenance needs
    • Stained finishes: pre-coloured boards in grey, charcoal, smoked and other tones

    Board formats

Kahrs offers boards from 90mm narrow strips up to 200mm wide planks, with lengths typically running from 1800mm to 2420mm in the plank ranges. The wider boards are glue-down only; narrower boards are available in both glue and floating configurations.

For London Victorian properties, the 130mm and 150mm widths in a rustic or natural grade tend to sit most naturally. For modern extensions and open-plan kitchens, the 187-200mm wide boards in a grey or smoked finish are popular.

    Underfloor heating compatibility

Most Kahrs engineered boards are compatible with underfloor heating when installed by glue-down method, with surface temperatures kept below 27°C and a maximum moisture content in the subfloor of 1.8% (CM method). Kahrs provide clear installation guidelines for UFH use. Always check the specific product datasheet before specifying for a heated floor.

What Kahrs flooring costs fitted in London

    • Kahrs Spirit Classic (supply and fit): typically £60-75/m²
    • Kahrs Original range (supply and fit): typically £80-105/m²
    • Kahrs Nouveau or premium collections: typically £110-145/m²
    • Prices vary with room size, subfloor condition and access

Where to see Kahrs in person

Colour photography does not do justice to textured or wire-brushed finishes. The difference between a satin lacquer and a matte oiled board is significant in person and nearly impossible to judge on screen. Our London showroom has a wide selection of Kahrs boards displayed in full plank form so you can compare finishes, grades and widths side by side.

If you're planning a project in London and want to see the Kahrs range, get in touch with FlooringFirst to arrange a showroom visit or request a site measure and supply-and-fit quote.
