The first step of the project required us to remove the fireplace hearth. What should be the focal point and the heart of the room – the fireplace – now looked tired and old due to the wear and tear on the hearth. However, some gaps are too wide and an additional gap filling with pine slivers is required.
Once this is done, the floor becomes even sturdier and more durable and it ensures great insulation. Next, we can carry on with sanding the surface until it becomes extra smooth and uniform and all of the scratches, dents, marks, stains, the old and worn finish, and the rest of the imperfections are stripped down. The following buffing treatment makes the surface even smoother and opens the porous structure of wood so it can absorb the lacquer to finish more effectively.
