Cork Floor Sanding Essentials
Cork floor is very similar to the solid wood flooring. So, cork floor restoration is very similar to the solid wood restoration. However, a great care, patience and expertise are required to do the cork floor sanding in comparison to other types of solid wood flooring. Several important facts should be taken into consideration before any cork floor sanding takes place:

Check the type of the cork floor you have. Only solid cork floor is applicable for floor sanding. Veneer cork floor cannot be sanded and is not suitable for floor restoration.

Scratches on solid cork floor can be removed by floor sanding.

Oiled cork floor can be re-oiled without floor sanding.

Floor sanding of solid cork floor should be as light as possible. The floor sanding paper should be fine grit, starting from 60.

Check the thickness of the cork floor before floor sanding. It should be at least ¼ - inch. Because of the extreme softness of the cork floor, thinner cork floor can be damaged by the floor sanding.

Check the finish of the cork floor before you start the cork floor sanding. It is advisable to use the same finish as part of the cork floor restoration process.
