Is Engineered Flooring Applicable For Floor Sanding?

Floor sanding is a wood floor restoration service. It is used to remove scratches, light indentations, surface stains and worn sealant from the wooden floors and to restore the beautiful appearance of your floor. Floor sanding is applicable only to real wood flooring. And here comes the question "Is engineered flooring real wood flooring?".

Engineered flooring has a top layer, which is real wood, so the answer is YES, engineered flooring is real wood flooring and YES engineered flooring is applicable for floor restoration. However, before you decide to restore engineered flooring, you should take into consideration several things:

The engineered flooring is having a top layer between 2 mm and 6 mm, which can be sanded several times. 2mm and 3mm-top-layer engineered flooring can be sanded only once. Floor sanding can be applied several times to engineered flooring with thicker top layer. The one with 6mm top layer is almost equivalent to solid wood, which can be sanded up to the T&G system.
Professional floor sanding is recommended for engineered flooring with thinner top layer, especially if the level of the floor is not smooth throughout, the sanding of the engineered flooring can be dangerous. If sanded more than acceptable while levelling, the top layer can be sanded up to the plywood, which means your floor would be irreparably damaged and would need to be changes. Professional floor sanding under those circumstances could give you a piece of mind and irresistible appearance of your engineered floor after the floor restoration process.
