Loose boards are not only one of the major reasons behind squeaky floors, they also significantly raise the possibility of gaps between boards widening with time. This is especially important for newly restored floors, since aging boards tend to lose structural strength over time. Gap filling is highly recommended for wooden floors, especially in ground floor rooms, since this is the best way to address cold air draughts coming from beneath. In the case of floor blocks flooring, each single unit should be carefully examined and refit. Thinner boards that may bend or even give in when walked on, must be replaced. Once we have made sure gap filling mixture will stay stable in between well-fixed boards, we mix the saw dust that came off at the sanding stage with resin-based filler and apply it to smaller floor gaps. Wider gaps of 4 mm or larger size must be filled using wood slivers. Wood Floor Staining - Twisting The Colour of Your Wooden Floors

Stainers should be applied along the length of each floor block and multiple layers of dye should be avoided so as to guarantee evenly colored surface. Multiple layers of stain make the color progressively darker, mask the wood grain structure and make it look unnatural.
